I was frankly stunned to see that we haven’t updated since December.  I thought, “that’s not that long ago, right?  It is.  Long ago.  Fuck!  Well during that time, MAMMAL 003 was being knitted together like an enormous healing scab.  I’m pleased to say that it’s finally FINISHED AND AT THE PRINTER.  I just received a dummy today.  If you enjoyed 001 and 002, this one should turn your crank.  Since those previous issues, our crew members have been busting ass on all sorts of other work, but we’ve got a colored excerpt of Benjamin “NIGHT BUSINESS” Marra’s loving homage to N.W.A.-style Hip-Hop, GANGSTA RAP POSSE, new, truly insane illustrations from UGLY AMERICANS (doing damage on Comedy Central) creator Devin Clark, and disturbing explorations of dark neuroses from Dan “Meth Minute” Meth, among others (myself included).  SO!  We expect it will be available to y’all by October, with the debut at New York Comic Con from October 8-10.  We’ll be in the small press section – - look for us and we’ll have fresh, hot issues for you.

Hello cannibals!  I recently had the privilege to contribute art to the totally awesome Richmond, Virginia-based skate zine BORN UGLY. Friend-of-MAMMAL Jim “Barf” Callahan was kind enough to include one of my “Boring Meeting Drawings” in issue #4. You can order it from them or read it in convenient pdf format at their site. It’s really pretty excellent and will make you want to take out the board you haven’t used since all of your high school buddies got driver’s licenses.  Take a look when you have a chance, and make sure you take a look at some of Jim’s illustration and comics work. The dude is keeping the torch lit for ultra-sick graphics!

While the MAMMAL dwarves, kidnapped and drugged, continue working on the layout of said mag, I found time in my globetrotting playboy schedule to make the cover for MAMMAL #003: FEAR!   Yea, though ye walketh through the valley of death, thou SHALT fear our EVIL!  Actually, the issue is a lot more multifaceted than that, with fear examined in ways whimsical as a juggler and serious as a coronary, all of it personal to us.  I’ll be putting together a logo shortly, but for now, here’ the raw finished art.  I was aiming for a nice 70’s pervo-euro-horror comic/movie poster vibe.  Did I get it?  You tell me, readers!  WARNING!  Some of you may not have ever seen…a breast…before.  I recommend you sit down before looking at this…

The chilling, titillating, altogether thrilling cover for MAMMAL MAGAZINE #003: FEAR!!!

Good day, kind citizens!

I Recently had the honor of painting a poster (which will also be a magazine ad) for ODYSSEY BMX.  Our main man over there Jim Bauer art directed it and was both patient and helpful while I was cramming 12 of his pro riders (such as Aaron Ross, Adam Banton, Chase Hawk, etc.) into the composition.  His idea and my intention were to give it the same feel as an 80s action-movie montage poster.  Kind of an homage to Drew Struzan (I did my best – - he’s…a “little” better than me.)  Jim debuted the poster at a BMX convention over the weekend, and was happy to report that all 500 copies he brought flew off the table.  I’m really excited about how it came out and will update again once I know which magazines it’s appearing in.  RAD!

Greetings, Savage Youth!  MAMMAL Magazine is currently gearing up for our appearance at the SMALL PRESS EXPO in Bethesda, Maryland this weekend 9/26-9/27.  You’ll know you’re near us by the overpowering stench of wild creatures that follows us everywhere we go, but just in case we’ll be at table E15.  In addition to the usual MAMMAL books and merch, BENJAMIN MARRA, esteemed co-founder, will be flogging his morally flawed and nitro-exciting comics GANGSTA RAP POSSE and NIGHT BUSINESS.  If you’re going to be there, by all means seek us out, as we’ll be dispensing meaningless platitudes disguised as deep, eternal wisdom for any who seek guidance.

It is always interesting to see what will resonate with people. Some work I do, I’m sure everyone will love, and it falls flat. Other things, done on a whim, blow up. The ‘Facial Hair Types’ I did for Mammal 002 has been selected for 3×3 Illustration Annual No. 5  and American Illustration 28. What can I say. People love beards.
